Working hard at the gym and meeting your nutrition goals but want to maximize your results?
Clients often ask what supplements they should be taking to support their goals. Walk into any nutrition store and you will see an endless array of products that promise improved health, muscle growth, improved performance, or weight loss. The large number of products can make the process of picking out the right supplements overwhelming and confusing.
Our team at Bakke Athletics follow some basic principles when it comes to taking and recommending supplements.
First, be aware of what you are taking and the ingredients. If you are a competitive athlete you are responsible to ensure there are no banned substances, as benign as they may seem. Don’t just trust the guy at the gym or your friend.
Second, start with quality food. Supplements should be just that – a supplement to a healthy nutrition program. There are only a few things that we naturally cannot get enough of just by eating the right foods. Food is almost always a more efficient, more productive, and cheaper way to get what you need.
Based on the above principles there are only a few core items that clients typically need, especially when staying on budget is important. Beyond that, some additional supplements could be recommended based on your body type, general health, and fitness goals.
Don’t be lured by the promises many supplements boast. It can often lead to little to no improvement and can drain your bank account. Work with trusted and knowledgeable trainers and coaches to understand what supplements are most useful and beneficial for you and your goals.
