Tips for Working Out on the Right Cardio Equipment

Although you can be fit just by running outdoors and lifting ordinary household items, why not utilize professionally designed equipment and consultation at your local health club.  Why join a gym? A membership can help with the commitment, since you feel obligated to use it if you are paying for it.  Health club memberships and the exercise equipment are excellent exercise solutions for many people. However there are some things to keep in mind, and some cautions to be cognizant of.though:

  • Even though the Gym has the latest high tech exercise equipment, results are seen only when it is used regularly.
  • There is a learning curve to using exercise equipment properly, and a coach or personal trainer can help you avoid injuries that could sideline your regime.
  • Exercise equipment comes in all shapes, sizes and colors.  It pays to ask other members or staff members which equipment will benefit your goal and smart consumers before making your purchase.

We have listed a couple descriptions of the most common equipment used at Hybrid Fitness.

Cardio equipment

If you look in our gym, you’ll see several rows of cycling, running, walking, rowing and stair climbing equipment.  Some are motorized, some aren’t, but most of these machines offer good cardio workouts that burn calories and fat. The real benefit is that you are indoors, in a controlled environment, and your workout will not be dependent on weather.

Elliptical machines

These machines provide a circular up-and-down motion that’s a cross between a ski machine (think NordicTrack) and a stair-stepper. They provide a nearly impact-free workout, which is easy on the joints. Resistance and grade can be adjusted automatically or manually on some models, and levers with handgrips to work the upper body may be available, too. It may take a little while to get used to the unusual motion. Try the machine out at varying speeds and grades to make sure it feels stable. You may need to adjust your grip as you get more comfortable with the machine.

Rowing machines

Rowing machines work the back, arms, and legs simultaneously, offering as close to a total-body workout as available from a machine. Unless you’re used to rowing, the motion initially may feel unfamiliar, and some people find it hard on the back.

Stair Climbing maching

These machines provide a low-impact workout similar to climbing flights of stairs. Beginners may find stepper machines strenuous, and the motion can be hard on the knees. The overall workout benefits legs and can be a good conditioner for hiking and cardio.

Stationary bicycle

An exercise bike takes no training and is easy to use and provides and excellent cardiovascular workout. Look for a model with a comfortable, adjustable seat and foot straps. At Hybrid Fitness, we have Power Tap cycling that uses resistance to help you improve your workout.

Treadmill

This machine enables you to walk or run indoors. Some models offer a flexible, less joint-jarring surface. Our treadmills at Hybrid Athletic Club are motorized. You can adjust the speed and grade so you can walk at a comfortable pace or run if you feel like taking a jog.

Take advantage of our cardio equipment today. It’s a great complement to our class training programs including Pilates, boxing, yoga, turf workouts, and our Hybrid Health Plan for weight loss and life change.
